Young Equestrians Clubs focus on trying different activities and learning new skills. For those weeks where you don’t have a guest speaker or trip out planned, it is useful to have a few session ideas up your sleeve that you are confident everyone will love. We spoke to some of our Clubs to find out what their ‘go to’ sessions are and why.
Greenways Stables –
“Our go to activity has got to be mounted games; we often set up lanes in the school and practise the different races. It not always on horseback, our Young Equestrians are equally happy to do the races on foot and one session we even played a rounders match!
Summerhouse Equestrians – Gloucestershire
“We do a lot of work on stable management in our Club, and team this with visits from equine professionals to keep it varied and interesting. There’s lots for us to do but if we were to choose a favourite session it would be working together to create a drill ride, so we try to fit this in around our guest speakers and other events”
Little Margate Equestrian
“We have such good fun at Young Equestrians! We love doing loads of different things together but I think our go to activity would have to be bareback riding! We have done it twice already and we all love it!”
Follifoot Park Riding Centre – Yorkshire
“We tend to have a schedule of activities based on our ideas but without a doubt if we have not planned something we would always choose to do a jumping exercise, either Chase me Charlie or jumping wide oxers. We normally do these exercises as a competition as we are a very competitive bunch!”
Long lane Equestrian – Derbyshire
“We all love bareback and higher and higher but just spending time around each other is a bonus. If we don’t have a session booked in and we all decide we want to get together, we will either plan to go bowling, or mini golf if it is non horse related, or if it is horse related we enjoy walking the cross country course at our centre, or giving the horses and ponies a good groom and plait them up.”
