Club of the Month

Witherslack Hall Equestrian Centre, Cumbria, have been selected as our latest Young Equestrians Club of the Month.

We’ve had our eye on the Young Equestrians at Witherslack Hall for a while and have been very impressed with their fundraising events, variety of activities and inclusive atmosphere.

The Club have raised £700 for Guide Dogs UK by organising a competition for themselves and Pony Club Members where they were challenged to complete a handy pony course using SimSpecs; designed to simulate what it is like to have different eye conditions and raise awareness. They also put on a cake sale and table top sale to encourage parents and spectators to get involved.

Deana Tarr, WHEC’s proprietor, commented; “I am so proud of how all the Young Equestrians support each other, especially when they come together for worthwhile causes.”

Simspecs practise

The Club put on a three day Young Equestrians Camp over the summer and the itinerary was jam-packed full of different riding sessions, social events and spending time with their favourite horses. To have a go at something different the Young Equestrians organised for a side saddle specialist to come and give them a demonstration followed by a taster session. They then swapped back into their normal saddles and went on to practising their dressage and show jumping ready for the camp’s combined training competition. Throughout the whole camp the Club were mindful of their expectations they had set themselves which were:

  • Be kind
  • Try your hardest
  • If you’re not sure, ask!
  • Helmets on the yard
  • Keep your things tidy
  • Your horse’s welfare comes first

Camp 2

Recently they, like lots of other Young Equestrians Clubs, have got the drill riding bug, so have used their sessions to practise their routine. The Club are also planning on completing a Countryfile Ramble in November to raise money for Children in Need, but rather than walk they will be rambling on Horseback!
